Fjak Chocolate (Norway): The First Norwegian Bean-to-bar

Fjåk stands as Norway's pioneer in bean-to-bar chocolate crafting. With a commitment to organic, ethically sourced ingredients, we meticulously produce chocolate of the utmost quality. Fjak's process begins with carefully selected cacao beans, sourced from diverse and intriguing origins, then complemented by the finest natural elements harvested from the Nordic wilderness.

Nestled in the scenic beauty of the Hardangerfjord in Norway, Fjak's old-fashioned factory serves as the heart of their operations, where they carefully infuse chocolate with the essence of the Nordic landscape.

Every step of our chocolate-making journey is mixed with love and dedication. From the selection of premium cacao beans to the blending with precious ingredients sourced from Norwegian nature, Fjak's aim is to create an extraordinary Nordic chocolate experience unlike any other.

At the prestigious 2018 International Chocolate Awards, Fjak Chocolate burst onto the scene with remarkable success, clinching the title of Best Newcomer alongside multiple Gold, Silver, and Bronze accolades. Further acclaim followed at the Great Taste Awards 2018, where Fjak secured an impressive six stars, including a coveted three-star rating for its 70% Madagascar bar in its debut appearance.

The story of Fjåk Chocolate traces back to 2015 when Agur and Siv, inspired by craft chocolate videos, embarked on their chocolate-making journey. Starting with a humble Premier grinder and a kilo of cocoa beans, their passion took root. In late 2017, Fjak officially emerged, marking the culmination of two years of experimentation. Throughout this period, Agur and Siv tirelessly pursued excellence, honing their craft and refining their ethical and flavor-focused approach with the goal of ensuring scalability from the outset.

Fjak prioritizes direct sourcing, forging direct relationships with cocoa farms whenever possible. For their Madagascar and Brazil cocoa beans, Fjak partners directly with Åkesson or relies on trusted suppliers like Uncommon Cacao or Cocoanect. This commitment to sourcing directly ensures not only quality but also fosters sustainable and transparent supply chains.

The inception of Fjak Chocolate dates back to 2015, when Agur and her partner Siv Hereid, both women with a shared vision, embarked on their chocolate-making adventure. Inspired by craft chocolate videos, they took the leap and purchased a modest Premier grinder and a kilo of cocoa beans. Thus, on their kitchen countertop, the seeds of Fjak Chocolate were sown.

Fast forward to 2017, Fjåk Chocolate AS was officially founded, marking the culmination of two years of experimentation and dedication. With a mission to become the premier craft chocolate maker in Norway, Agur and Siv set out to showcase the diversity and quality of real chocolate, emphasizing the use of fine organic cocoa and supporting small-scale farmers.

For Agur and the Fjak team, the journey doesn't end with their current offerings. Continuously pushing the boundaries of flavor and innovation, they strive to introduce new chocolate bars and products, experimenting with new origins and Nordic-inspired flavors. Their ambition extends beyond Norway's borders, aiming to expand into new markets across Europe and beyond.

Central to Fjak Chocolate's identity is its packaging, meticulously crafted in collaboration with British designer Ian Holcroft. Together, they work to create packaging that reflects Fjak's ethos of quality and craftsmanship.

When it comes to sourcing beans, Fjak prioritizes direct relationships with cocoa farmers. Whether sourcing directly from the farm or through trusted suppliers like Åkesson, Uncommon Cacao, or Cocoanect, Fjak ensures transparency and sustainability throughout their supply chain.

Agur's culinary passions extend beyond chocolate, with a particular fascination for Gin and foraging in the Norwegian wilderness for inspiration. Among her favorite chocolate makers are esteemed names like Fruition and Palette de Bine, whose dedication to quality and innovation she deeply admires.

Reflecting on their achievements, Agur takes pride in the recognition Fjak Chocolate has garnered in a remarkably short span of time. With seven awards under their belt within the first year of operation, including recognition from the Academy of Chocolate Awards, Fjak Chocolate stands as a testament to the power of passion and dedication.

As Fjak Chocolate continues to captivate palates and push boundaries, one thing is clear: their journey is as rich and enticing as the chocolate they create.
